BRIAN TAYLOR

FOUNDING PARTNER, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER & CO-CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER

Brian is the Founding Partner, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Chief Investment Officer. He is the Chairman of Pine River’s Executive Committee and serves on the firm’s Compliance, Risk Management, Terms, and Counterparty Credit Committees. Brian is the Chairman of the Boards of Two Harbors Investment Corp. and Granite Point Mortgage Trust Inc. Prior to Pine River’s inception, Brian began his career at EBF & Associates in 1988 as a trader, becoming head of the convertible arbitrage group in 1994, and was named a Partner in 1997. His responsibilities included portfolio management, marketing, product development, and trading information systems development. He received an MBA with a concentration in Finance and a specialization in Statistics from the University of Chicago in 1988 and a BS in Accounting with a minor in Mathematics summa cum laude from Millikin University in 1986.

 

AARON YEARY

PARTNER & PRESIDENT OF PINE RIVER

Aaron is a Partner and President of Pine River, overseeing the firm’s business activities, product development, counterparty relationships, human resources, and financial and expense management. He is Co-Portfolio Manager for the Pine River Fund, where he helps oversee allocation and management of the strategies that make up the firm’s flagship multi-strategy fund. Aaron serves on Pine River’s Executive Committee and Budget Action and Human Capital Committee. Prior to joining Pine River in 2002, Aaron traded US convertibles, debt and equities using a variety of arbitrage strategies and performed credit analysis for EBF & Associates from 1998 to 2002. Aaron received a BA in Economics from the University of Chicago in 1998.

 

THOMAS SIERING

PARTNER & CEO OF TWO HARBORS

Thomas E. Siering is the Chief Executive Officer and President of Two Harbors Investment Corp. Thomas is also a partner of Pine River Capital Management and a Director of Granite Point Mortgage Trust Inc. He serves on the Pine River Executive Committee and on the board of the Pine River Foundation. Thomas previously served as a director of Silver Bay Realty Trust Corp. (NYSE: SBY) from December 2012 to May 2017. Prior to joining Pine River, Thomas was head of the Value Investment Group at EBF & Associates, a private investment firm, where he worked from 1989 to 2006. During that period, he was also the manager for Merced Partners, a private investment firm, and Tamarack International, a closed-end, non-diversified investment management company. Thomas was named a Partner at EBF in 1997. From 1987 to 1989, Thomas held various positions in the Financial Markets Department of Cargill, and from 1981 until 1987, he held both trading and managerial roles in the Domestic Soybean Processing Division at Cargill. He received a BBA from the University of Iowa with a major in Finance in 1981.

 

NIKHIL MANKODI

PARTNER & PORTFOLIO MANAGER

Nikhil is a Partner and Portfolio Manager focusing on Asian and European Debt and Equities strategies. He manages Pine River’s London office. Prior to joining Pine River in 2002, Nikhil traded Japanese convertible bonds, credit derivatives and options for EBF & Associates beginning in 1998. Nikhil received a BA in Economics from the University of Chicago in 1998.

 

TIM O’BRIEN

PARTNER, GENERAL COUNSEL & CO-CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Tim is a Partner, General Counsel and Co-Chief Operating Officer. He is co-Chairman of the firm’s Operating Committee and also serves on the Compliance, Executive, Valuation, Counterparty Credit, Terms, and Budget Action and Human Capital Committees. He was General Counsel of Silver Bay Realty Trust from 2012 to 2014 and General Counsel of Two Harbors Investment Corp. from 2009 to 2013. Prior to joining Pine River, Tim was with NRG Energy from 1996 until 2006, most recently serving as Vice President and General Counsel. Prior to joining NRG, Tim was an associate at Sheppard Mullin. He received a BA in History from Princeton University in 1981 and a JD from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1986.

 

JIAYI CHEN

PARTNER, PORTFOLIO MANAGER & HEAD OF FIXED INCOME

Jiayi is a Partner, Head of Fixed Income, and Portfolio Manager for Agency MBS trading strategies. Prior to joining Pine River in 2008, Jiayi was an Analyst for Goldman Sachs Asset Management as part of the Fixed Income Group. While at Goldman, Jiayi was part of a quantitative team that designed and implemented a mortgage model, currency factor model and an equity risk model. During the summer of 2006, Jiayi was an intern with Goldman Sachs Fixed Income Group. Jiayi received a BA in Mathematics from Tsinghua University in Beijing in 2005 and an MA in Statistics from Columbia University in 2006.

 

WILLIAM ROTH

PARTNER & CIO OF TWO HARBORS

William Roth is the Chief Investment Officer and a Director of Two Harbors Investment Corp., where he oversees investment strategies employed by the publicly-traded REIT. William is also a Partner of Pine River Capital Management and a Director of Granite Point Mortgage Trust Inc. William also serves on Pine River’s Charitable Initiatives Committee. Prior to joining Pine River in 2009, William was at Citigroup and its predecessor, Salomon Brothers, for 28 years where he was named a Director in 1987 and a Managing Director in 1997. From 2004 to 2009, William managed a proprietary trading book at Citigroup with a focus on mortgage and asset-backed securities. From 1994 to 2004, William was part of the Salomon/Citi New York Mortgage Sales Department. From 1981 to 1994, William managed the Chicago Financial Institutions Sales Group for Salomon. He received an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business in 1981 and a BS in Finance and Economics from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1979.

 

JAMES CLARK

PARTNER & CO-CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER

James is Co-Chief Investment Officer and Co-Portfolio Manager of the Pine River Fund. He serves on the firm’s Executive and Risk Committees. Prior to joining Pine River in 2012, he spent 18 years at Goldman Sachs Asset Management where he was a Managing Director and Partner. While at Goldman Sachs, he held a variety of roles including Head of Risk and Portfolio Construction, Co-Head of U.S. Fixed Income, and Head of Mortgage Trading. From 1992 to 1994, James served as an Analyst at Travelers Insurance. He began his career as a Research Analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. James received an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1992 and a BA from Kenyon College in 1988.

 

PAUL RICHARDSON

PARTNER & CHIEF RISK OFFICER

Paul is a Partner and Chief Risk Officer, responsible for vetting every trade, investment strategy and counterparty relationship at Pine River to ensure they fit within our stringent guidelines. He serves as Chairman of Pine River’s Risk Committee and serves on the Counterparty Credit Committee. Prior to joining Pine River, Paul was the Director of Quantitative Research at Stark Investments from 2006 to 2010, where he was responsible for all modeling and analytics and was a member of the firm’s Risk Committee. From 1992 to 2005, Paul worked at the financial markets division of Cargill and its successor Black River Asset Management, where he was most recently a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager focused on capital structure arbitrage. From 1989 to 1992, Paul served as a Vice President of Fixed Income Research and as an MBS Trader for Lehman Brothers. Paul was an Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Michigan from 1987 to 1989 and at the University of Minnesota from 1983 to 1987. He received a PhD in Economics from Harvard University in 1983 and a BA in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1979, where he was a Regents Scholar. Paul has published several articles in academic journals.

 

DAVID KELLY

PARTNER, CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER & CO-CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

David is a Partner, Chief Information Officer and Co-Chief Operating Officer. He is co-Chairman of the firm’s Operating Committee and serves on the Budget Action and Human Capital Committee. Prior to joining Pine River, David was the Chief Technology Officer of the Enterprise Division at Thomson Reuters from 2010 to 2012. From 2001 to 2010, David worked at SAC Capital Advisors, where he ultimately served as a Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer. David was responsible for all aspects of the firm’s technology strategy, including infrastructure and development. From 1996 to 2001, David worked for Barclays Capital in a variety of positions including Head of Technology for the Americas. From 1994 to 1996, David worked for JP Morgan Chase as Associate of Global Technology of Operations, and from 1992 to 1994 David worked for Unilever as a Programmer/Analyst. David received an MS in Information Systems from Pace University in 1994 and a BS in Business Administration and Management Information Systems from Boston University in 1991.

 

SUSHMA GAMBHIR

PARTNER, HEAD OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Sushma is a Partner, Head of Business Development, where she oversees the firm’s marketing and investor relations efforts. She is the Chairwoman of the Pine River Charitable Initiatives Committee and serves on the Terms Committee. Prior to joining Pine River, Sushma was a Vice President and Head of the West Coast Capital Introductions team at Citigroup from 2009 to 2010. From 2007 to 2009, Sushma was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs where she most recently oversaw the West Coast Hedge fund Capital Introductions business and, before that, oversaw the Asia Capital Introductions business for U.S. investors. From 2003 to 2007, Sushma was a member of the Capital Introductions team at Credit Suisse and from 2001 to 2003 she served as a Financial Analyst in Capital Introductions at Lehman Brothers. Sushma received a BA in Economics and Religion from Northwestern University in 2001.

 

NICK NUSBAUM

PARTNER, CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Nick is a Partner, Chief Financial Officer, where he oversees the firm’s fund accounting, corporate accounting and tax functions. Nick serves on Pine River’s Valuation, Compliance, Counterparty Credit, Terms, Charitable Initiatives and Budget Action and Human Capital Committees. Prior to joining Pine River, Nick worked at 3 Twelve Capital as Chief Financial Officer/Chief Compliance Officer from 2011 to 2013. In this role, he designed the internal process flows for all trading, middle office, back office, and compliance systems, and managed the annual financial audit. From 2008 to 2011, Nick worked at Attalus Capital as Chief Financial Officer. From 2005 to 2008, he was Chief Financial Officer/Chief Compliance Officer at Gamma Capital Advisors. Nick was at Ernst & Young from 1999 to 2005, most recently as Audit Senior Manager. From 1996 to 1999, he was an Audit Supervisor at Kuntz, Lesher, Siegrist & Martini LLP. Nick received a BS in Accounting from Elizabethtown College in 1995.

 

PHIL PRINCE

PARTNER, HEAD OF TREASURY

Phil is a Partner and Head of Treasury. He is the Chairman of Pine River’s Brokerage Committee. Prior to joining Pine River, Phil was at Goldman Sachs from 1983 to 2014, most recently as Managing Director and head of Central Funding within the Investment Management Division. In this role, he managed the team responsible for financing, cash management and liquidity risk management. Phil began his tenure at Goldman Sachs in 1983 as an Associate in Repurchase Finance and later held a variety of positions including head of U.S. dollar funding for GS Group, general collateral trader, GSE debt trader, U.S. Treasury arbitrage trader, and Co-Treasurer of the Investment Management Division. From 1982 to 1983, He was an Associate in the financial practice of Arthur Andersen Consulting. Phil received an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business in 1982 and attended Vanderbilt University, where he studied Economics and Philosophy.
