Founded in Pine River, Minnesota in 2002 by CEO and Co-CIO Brian Taylor, the firm now operates out of offices in Minnetonka, New York, London, and Luxembourg. Pine River has secured long-term advantages for our clients through significant investment in top investment talent and operational infrastructure.

Pine River is a Hedge Fund Standards Board (HFSB) signatory and reports risk analysis on a monthly basis to the Open Protocol Enabling Risk Aggregation (OPERA).

To be eligible for an Absolute Return Award a fund must have at least a 12-month track record and either submit performance data directly to the Absolute Return database or via investors who verify the accuracy of the return record. Nominations are decided by those funds that achieve the strongest Sharpe ratios during the calendar year, so long as they beat the median returns in their relevant peer groups and are also within 10% of their high-water mark. Winners are funds which achieve the best returns, as long as they also achieve Sharpe ratios within 25% of the best among the nominees and are also within 10% of their high-water mark. The Best Management Firm Award is based on weighted average returns and Sharpe ratios, and asset growth during the year. To be considered, firms must manage at least three funds and have combined assets of at least $3 billion.
